Crystal cleansing & charging
Healing crystals, or gemstones, are part of a category called “vibrational healing crystals.” These crystals both give and absorb energy. For these crystals regular cleansing after use is extra important.
When should you cleanse your crystals?
Begin right after receiving the crystal in your home. Gems purchased from The Gem Sanctuary are cleansed and charged under the full moon before they make their way to you, so you can use them right away!
When a crystal is used for healing purposes, the crystal should be cleansed & recharged after each use. If worn as jewelry (or in your bra ladies), you may decide to cleanse them daily or weekly.
Crystals that you use for cleaning your environment such as your home or office (Crystals such as Selenite, Halite Himalaya Salt & Shungite), should be cleansed monthly.
Moon light
There are multiple ways to cleanse your crystals.
But the most powerful way to do this, is to bath them a night in the light of the full moon.
The full moon can clear a crystal’s energy and recharge the positive frequencies it holds. You can place any crystal in your window,
but be careful that not all crystals are water proof, some might even dissolve in fog or water!
Although ritual cleansing is often centered around specific points in the solar or lunar
cycle, you can set your crystal out or in the window at any night to cleanse and recharge
Sun light
Charging a crystal in bright sunlight
for about 12 hours increases its vitality.
Place your crystal in direct sunlight outside or in a window to absorb all energy of the sun during the day. Although this is a very powerful method like the moonlight, there are some crystals that cannot be exposed to sunlight for too long or they will fade colors!
WARNING: do not use this method for crystals like Aventurine, Amethyst, Aquamarine, Beryl, Citrine, Kunzite, Sapphires, Fluorite, Rose Quartz, Smokey Quartz.
White sage smudge
Cleanse your crystal collections with smoke.
Collect all your crystals and take them outside or close to a open window so all negative energy can be released immediately.
Just like our bodies, crystals like to be grounded.
Ideally they should be placed directly on the earth or a natural surface.
When you’re ready, ignite the tip of the sage with the flame till it is smoking heavily. Pick up the crystal you would like to cleanse with your left hand and hold the white sage in your right hand. Move the crystal through the smoke and allow the smoke to envelop the crystal for about 30 seconds. If you feel like the crystal is holding on to a lot of energy, please hold it for an additional 30 seconds in the smoke until the smoke shows more calming behavior.
Place the crystal back on the surface and move on to the next crystal until all are cleansed.
Running water
Cleansing your crystals with water.
Water neutralizes any negative energy stored inside a crystal and returns it back to the earth like guiding lightning.
Of course natural running water is best for cleansing but a faucet will work fine as well. In any case make sure that your crystal is completely submerged and pat dry when you finish. You may put each crystal in running water for about 30 seconds.
WARNING: do not use this method for brittle crystals like Fluorite, Kyanite, Selenite, Apophyllite, Tangerine Quartz, Gypsum, Lepidolite, Opal, Azurite, Apatite, Halite, Malachite, Turquoise, Ulexite, Labradorite, Celestite, Pyrite and Hematite. They might even dissolve in water.
Salt water
Throughout history salt has been used for purification cleansing unwanted energy and banish negativity.
If you happen to live near the sea you may collect a bowl of fresh salt water there, if not you may add a tablespoon of himalayan salt to a bowl of water & stir the water up.
When the water eases down, speak your intentions close to the water to alter its frequency and submerge your crystal for about 48 hours.
WARNING: do NOT use this method for crystals that are soft, porous or crystals that contain trace metals such as Fluorite, Selenite, Apophyllite, Tangerine Quartz, Gypsum, Lepidolite, Opal, Azurite, Apatite, Halite, Calcite, Malachite, Turquoise, Ulexite, Labradorite, Celestite, Pyrite, Hematite
Of course there are more ways to cleanse and charge your crystals but these are, in my opinion, the most effective ways.
